Singapore Police Force on Facebook
February 28, 2009The Singapore Police Force has started an official SPF Facebook page in Jan 09, as part of its ongoing efforts to use new media to widen its outreach to citizens — especially younger and Internet-savvy Singaporeans.
Launched since 29 Jan 2009, the Singapore Police Force facebook page has attracted more than 2,000 fans within a month as of today.
They will be kept up to date of the latest crime trends as well as learn crime prevention tips on how to protect themselves, family and friends from becoming victims of crimes.
The page was also set up to better reach out to citizens with public education messages such as those relating to counter terrorism, road courtesy, road safety and anti drink driving.
These will be communicated via crime prevention advisories, photos of public education leaflets, SPF recruitment fairs as well as links to videos on the SPF YouTube Channel.
Judging from initial reactions to the page, SPF appears to have succeeded in its aim of reaching out to younger Singaporeans, as almost 80 per cent of its fans are from the 18-34 age group.
SPF presence on Facebook will further widen its reach into new media, in addition to its official channel on YouTube.
